Get accredited as Practitioner

Eligibility criteria

In order to be eligible to participate in an EMDR Europe accredited EMDR training course, trainees must hold an up-to-date license or registration to provide psychotherapeutic services in their own country. In addition, the trainee must meet the minimum criteria for training set out by the National EMDR Association of the country where the colleague is working. The national EMDR Association must be contacted in order to determine whether or not a professional is eligible.

If colleagues want to have an EMDR Europe training in another country than where they work or live, this is possible. They will simply need the approval of the EMDR National Association of the country where they practice psychotherapy, so that their eligibility criteria are being checked.

EMDR Europe accredited training

EMDR Europe and its affiliated EMDR National Associations recognize only EMDR Europe accredited standard trainings provided by EMDR Europe accredited trainers. All other trainings will not be recognized to join a National Association member of EMDR Europe Association, nor to be accredited as EMDR Europe accredited Practitioner.

Colleagues interested in being trained in EMDR therapy should make sure that the training they want to register for is an EMDR Europe accredited training. The logo of EMDR Europe is a sign of affiliation.

Format and duration of the standard training

The training takes place over a minimum total of 6 days. The format of the training will be in two, three or four parts, depending on the trainers. This is made of:

  1. Two, three or four parts of teaching which also include practical exercises.
  2. Supervision in between the different parts of the training.

Accreditation as an EMDR Europe Practitioner

After the last part of the standard training, the colleagues are encouraged to continue consultations/supervisions with an EMDR Europe accredited consultant who will guide them in the accreditation process as EMDR Europe Practitioner. The EMDR trained therapist will be required to show their clinical work in EMDR therapy, mainly with videos, to the consultant. When the EMDR Europe consultant has validated all requirements, she/he fills in the Competency framework and presents it to the supervisee.
